The FreeBSD subversion port
I use git whenever I can but sometimes there are projects held in
subversion that I need to access.
I recently built the devel/subversion FreeBSD port. To my surprise I
was unable to check out an https repo. Subversion was unhappy and said
svn: E170000: Unrecognized URL scheme for
Who would have guessed that the option ‘SERF’ is critical for being able
to checkout an...

HTTPS Everywhere
HTTPS is HTTP with encryption. Some of you knew that. Encryption is good because it makes you less exposed to eavesdropping. Some of you knew that too.
Now, when you click on a link in a web page, that link is either HTTPS or HTTP. Most often it’s the latter, giving you the next page without encryption. But with the new Firefox extension from EFF and The Tor Project this problem has a...

How i love my Gnus, now even more
I know you know I read my email using Gnus, I just know you do.
Now, every now and again you want to do something to a bunch of articles (i.e. email messages) at once. Of course, a keyboard macro (`C-x (‘) will do it for you but that’s not half as fun as marking articles “as processable” and then just do it in one big sweep.
A fairly common thing to do is to mark...

Run a Tor node
I am running a Tor relay node and I can highly recommend it. It’s not hard at all and it gives you a good feeling, knowing that you’re helping people in countries where ordinary Internet users are prohibited from reaching the rest of the world.
Here’s how you do it on a NetBSD 5.0 system.
If you’re going to push anything more than a couple of hundreds of kilobytes of...

GoogleSharing :: A Special Kind Of Proxy →
Brilliant tool, by moxie marlinspike, that lets you use (some of) Googles services without giving out all your surfing habits.
You use Firefox for browsing the web.
You download and install a plugin.
You restart Firefox.
The plugin redirects Google traffic to a proxy (after cleaning up your data some).
The proxy sends your query to the real Google service using a random identity and relays...

This article explains quantum computing in about 2000 words.
No, it doesn’t. But it gives you an idea of why it’s so hard to grasp the idea using ordinary computer science methods. It’s all about changing lots of things with little effort. I still don’t have a clue on how to solve any problems with it though.
It links to Feynman’s “QED: The Strange Theory...
